1Market structure — the only thing that matters first
Price moves in swings. Label every swing high and low. The relationship between them tells you who is in control and which direction you're allowed to trade.
HH Higher High · HL Higher Low → uptrend
LH Lower High · LL Lower Low → downtrend
Rule #1: you only take trades in the direction of the structure. In an uptrend you buy HLs; you never short a HH just because "it's high".
2BOS vs CHoCH — "is the trend continuing or flipping?"
BOS (Break of Structure) = price breaks the previous high in an uptrend → trend confirmed, keep buying dips. CHoCH (Change of Character) = price breaks the last higher low → first warning the trend is over.
Green dashed = BOS — continuation. Each one is permission to look for the next long.
Orange dashed = CHoCH — the last HL gets taken out. Stop buying. Wait for a LH, then look for shorts.
Beginner trap: the first red candle after a HH is not a CHoCH. It only counts when price closes below the most recent higher low.
3Liquidity sweep — why gold "stop-hunts" you, and how to use it
Gold loves to spike through obvious levels, trigger everyone's stop-losses, then reverse. Once you can see where the stops are, the spike becomes your entry instead of your loss.
Where are the stops? Below equal lows, above equal highs, below obvious trendlines, and at round numbers ($4,100, $4,150). Mark them before the session starts.
4The setup your buddy trades — trend pullback into demand, 1:4 reward
Put diagrams 1–3 together. HTF uptrend → price pulls back into the zone the last impulse launched from → you buy with a tight stop and target the previous high. Real gold numbers below.
Why the zone works: it's where big buyers filled last time and left unfilled orders. Price returning there tends to bounce.
Why 1:4 works: you can lose 3 of 4 trades and still break even. Your buddy isn't right more often — he's paid more when he's right.
4bThe entry trigger — zoom to 15m inside the zone
You don't buy just because price touched the zone. You wait for the 15m chart to flip: it was making LH/LL on the way down, then it breaks a lower high (CHoCH) and confirms (BOS). That's the trigger.
5The $4k math — same trade on a $25k, $50k and $100k account
1 lot of gold = 100 oz, so every $1 move = $100 per lot. Your buddy's $4k is a $100k-account number. The identical trade on your $25k challenge pays $1,000 — and that is correct, not small.
Lot formula to memorise: Lots = (Account × Risk%) ÷ (Stop in $ × 100). On $25k with a $10 stop that's 0.25 lot. With a tight $5 stop from the 15m trigger it's 0.50 lot — same $250 risk, double the payout per $1.
You're not trading your own money. You paid a fee, you prove you can hit a target without breaking the risk rules, then the firm funds you and splits the profit. Rules below are pulled from GFT's checkout API for the exact plan you bought.
Why +8% is hard: you must make $2,000 while never losing $1,000 in a day or $2,500 total. At 1% risk ($250) you can afford ~9 losses before you're out — plenty, if you size correctly.
Why +8% is doable: at 1:4 that's two winning trades. The target isn't the hard part — not blowing the drawdown while you wait for A+ setups is.
7Passing vs blowing the $25k — same setups, different lot size
Each step is one trade. Green risks $250 (0.25 lot) and wins $1,000. Red takes the exact same signals with 1.25 lot. Watch where each one ends up against your plan's rule lines.
8Top-down process — bias → zone → trigger
Three timeframes, three jobs. Each lower timeframe is only allowed to agree with the one above it.
Gold's volatility is concentrated in a few hours. Trading outside them is how beginners bleed small losses all day. Most gold traders only trade the NY window.
★Cheat sheet — what to do this week
Learn: open XAUUSD in TradeLocker (built-in TradingView charts), Daily → 1H → 15m. Label HH/HL/LH/LL, mark BOS and CHoCH, box equal highs/lows. 20 minutes a day.
Backtest: bar-replay 100 examples of ONE setup (diagram 4). Log win/loss and R. You'll know your real win rate before risking a cent.
Chart first, trade later: your $25k has no time limit, so 2–4 weeks of marking up charts before trade #1 costs you nothing. The $170 only dies if you break a rule.
Then trade it: 0.25 lot per $10 of stop ($250 = 1%). Two losses in a day = done for the day. +8% → +6% → funded → scale to $50k.
